Islamabad—Pakistan No. 1 and Davis Cup player, Aqeel Khan lift up to the expectations of tennis fraternity and spectators all and convincingly won the Men’s Singles title of 1st HASCOL National Ranking Tennis Championships, 2016.
He won the first set rather putting much efforts but in the second set his opponent Muhammad Abid Mushtaq of WAPDA resisted with composed efforts and took the lead to 4-0 stage.
From there Pakistan No.1 came to his billing and won the set without conceding a single game with 6-4 score. In the final set he eliminated M. Abid with the same score. Final score was 6-1,6-4,6-4.
Ladies singles final which was played earlier in the morning was rather more interesting and went to full distance. Sarah Mahboob Khan former Pakistan No.1 and Sara Mansoor current Pakistan No.1 engaged each other from the baseline and mostly relied on ground stock. Sarah Mahboob was the winner in a two hour and thirty minutes duel with the score 3-6,7-6(6),6-1.
Mumtaz Hassan Khan , Chairman & CEO Hascol Petroleum was the chief guest who gave away the cash prizes of Rs. 500000 to winners and runners up.
Salim Saifullah Khan , President PTF, Dilawar Abbas , patron PTF, His Excellency Sharif Shaheen Ambassador Egypt , His Excellency Ahmed Salim , the High Commissioner Republic of Maldives were also present at Closing ceremony.
