Pakistan’s tennis ace Aqeel Khan proved his dominance in country’s national circuit as he clinched National Clay Court Men’s Singles Title after beating Muzammil Murtaza in the final played here at PTF Complex on Friday.
Aqeel defeated his young opponent Muzammil in straight sets and claimed National Clay Court champion status one more time.
Former Member National Assembly and Provincial Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhaw Humayun Saifullah who was Chief Guest on the occasion witnessed the match and appreciated the players. In Men’s Doubles Final, Aqeel Khan pairing with Heera Ashiq lost to pair of M. Abid and Usman Rafique. Abid and Usman played well to bag the title of Men’s Doubles.
Boys U-8 title went to Saqib Umar of Peshawar after well contested final between him and M. Shoaib. Saqib won first set but lost the second won after some brilliant display of play by Shoaib. In final set, Saiqb shown his superiority and thrashed his opponent after losing single game. Sara Mansoor played well against Sara Mahboob to qualify for final of Ladies Singles in match which swung both ways.
Sara Mansoor won first set without conceding a game to her opponent, but Sara Mahboob did the same to her in second set. The decisive set went to Sara Mansoor after close battle between both experienced female players.
Sara Mansoor will take on Ushna Suhail in final on Saturday who defeated Alina Aftab. Alina after losing first set could not continue play due to injury and bowed out of the match. Sami Zeb and Uzair Khan will play for the title of Boys U-14 on Saturday after winning their semifinal matches against their respective opponents. Sami Zeb played well against Zalan Khan despite his opponent’s stiff resistance.—APP
