Qadri visits Lal Haveli

Zubair Qureshi

Rawalpindi—Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s leader Allama Dr Tahirul Sunday visited Pindi’s historical Lal Haveli, the political stronghold of Awami Muslim League’s chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and renewed his pledge to avenge the martyrs of Model Town.
Dr Tahirul Qadri who was received by the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as well as Awami Muslim League upon his arrival in the garrison city while addressing a public meeting along with Sh Rashid Ahmed made it clear that he and his party would not spare the government in the infamous incident of 17 June 2014, the killing of 14 workers of Awami Tehreek in the Model Town and would continue to struggle till justice is done. Besides Sh Rashid and Tahirul Qadri, Awami Tehrik’s Khurram Nawa Gandapur and Awami Muslim League’s Sheikh Rashid Shafique and Azhar Chaudhry also addressed the huge gathering outside the Lal Haveli. The visit of Dr Tahirul Qadri is being seen as an attempt to revive pressure on the Nawaz Sharif government regarding formation of independent commission and acceptance of the opposition parties’ TORs over Panama Leaks.
Analysts close to entire political situation also termed Tahirul Qadri’s rare visit to Lal Haveli as a gesture to all the opposition parties to come under one umbrella and reorganize their workers to hold the government accountable in the wake of Panama leaks.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties are also meeting today (Monday) to come out with a clear line of action on the future strategy against the government. So far, differences have been reported among the major political parties of PTI and PPP over the Terms of Reference. However, sources told Pakistan Observer that all the differences would be settled and the opposition parties would agree on one page agenda to discuss with the government.
Tahirul Qadri in his fiery speech said the government had set unprecedented record of corruption and spent millions of rupees in the advertisement budget of Mian Nawaz’s treatment abroad. Panama Leaks are only the tip of an iceberg he said adding the looted public money amounts of billions of rupees.
He also took those political parties and leaders standing by Mian Nawaz Sharif’s government and termed them traitors if they don’t part ways with him. He also took the government to task for spending millions of rupees out of the national exchequer on treatment of the prime minister.
Dr Tahirul Qadri also paid tributes to Sh Rashid Ahmed and called him voice of the voiceless, a true public representative. Sh Rashid also criticized the government for looting public money. Referring to the recent incident of firing and killing inside the India-Held Kashmir (IHK) in which 11 innocent people were killed, Sh Rashid Ahmed said it seems our Advisor on Foreign Affairs is in a fix what to say. Instead of condemning the brutal killing by the occupying Indian army, the advisor is keeping mum which is unfortunate, he said. Under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif institutions are weakening and the personalities are getting strengthened, unemployment has increased and law and order situation is deteriorating, he said.
