Peshawar—University of Swabi kicked off weeklong 3rd Annual Day Sports at premises of University here on Friday.
With smiling and painted faces wearing colourful traditional costumes depicting brotherhood of all provinces comprising Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan, VC of the University of Swabi was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the 3rd Annual Day Sports with male and female students from 13 different departments comprising Department of Agriculture, Economics, English, Geology, Pharmacy, PCRs LS, Management Sciences, Micro-Biology, Sociology, Zoology are taking part in a weeklong sports events comprising cricket, volleyball, football, table tennis, badminton, hockey, netball, tug-of-war and athletics.
Registrar Dr. Muhammad Faisal Malik, Dean of Faculty, Head of the Deptts, Section Head, students and players were also present. The ceremony was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Qari Naseer Ahmad of Department of Geology. Former international javelin thrower Iltaf Hussain, carrying national flag, followed by Tariq Aziz with University Flag and Safi Ullah with Games flag.
Wearing colourful costumes’ by male and female students carried a big banner flag of the University, followed by a stunning March Past. The chief guest on this occasion announced declaration of the weeklong sports gala, followed by the oath taking ceremony of all the participating contingent and national anthem.
The students enthusiastically took part in sack race, tuf-of-war, musical chair, Mad pot race, pillow fighting, 4X60m relay races of female and male, class-VI sack race3, followed by a grand traditional “atharn” dance. The pipe and brace band of KP Police led by Haleem Khan and Fazali Subhan also enthralled the sitting spectators who were compelled to gather their hands for thundering applauses.
In his welcome address Director Sports and former international javelin thrower Iltaf Hussain Khan in his welcomed speech appreciated the chief guest for her enduring all out support for holding sports activities. He also thanked all the faculty members and members of the administration, and students who took part in sports with enthusiasm.
In her speech, Pro. Dr. Noor Jehan said that players are ambassadors of peace and contribute towards the country’s good will. She said that active participation of women in sports could ensure a healthier society.
She said a modern gymnasium, play grounds and an indoor gym facility for female students would be developed very soon for which grants have already been allocated.
Khushnoma and Zoha got first and second prizes in Musical Chair, M. Ibrahim and Abdu Zar in Sack Race, Khusboo and Haleema in Mad Pot Race were the position holders. The chief guest also distributed trophies and prizes amongst winners of various competitions.
