An attack on Pak peace

The assassination of Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) and prominent religious scholar Maulana Sami-ul-Haq at a point in time when the religious sentiments were already running high in different parts of the country in the wake of Supreme Court Judgment in Aasiya Bibi case indeed is nothing else but an attack on the peace and stability of the country. It was aimed at adding fuel to the fire and such an act cannot be done other than by the enemies of Islam and Pakistan. It is however satisfying that the religious elements have not only remained calm and peaceful on the despicable act but those who took to the streets in Aasiya Bibi case also reached an agreement with the government and called off the strike. Thus we understand that the conspiracy hatched against the country stands totally foiled.
However, the assassination of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq is a great tragedy for the entire country. Both political and religious leaders poured with immediate condemnation with Premier Imran stating that the country had been deprived of an important religious leader. Prime Minister Imran Khan who is visiting China these days sought a report and directed that an investigation be carried out immediately to find the perpetrators. In fact this is not the first time that a prominent religious or political personality has been killed but the most regrettable part is that similar probes and inquiries ordered in the past never reached the logical end. How the investigation this time around will be different and whether the relevant institutions succeed in exposing the hands behind the cold blooded murder will be a big test for the incumbents. With the cooperation of intelligence agencies, the security institutions need to take forward the investigation and those behind the murder must be nabbed at all costs. Prime Minister Imran Khan should himself oversee the whole process as Sami-ul-Haq was not an ordinary person. He rendered great services for the country as well as promotion of religious education in the country. The liberals used to call him the head of Afghan Taliban for the reason that the top leadership of the Taliban got education from his seminary but the fact of the matter is that Maulana Sami never preached violence and always openly spoke against suicide attacks. His statements against the attacks on polio workers are also on the record. Therefore, we understand that he was facing threats from different quarters. Given the influence enjoyed by him in religious community, the enemies of Islam and Pakistan tried to trigger chaos in the country by killing a prominent personality like him at this particular time when the people were already on the roads. Therefore, we will once again urge the Prime Minister that investigation into the assassination of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq is not allowed to be swept under the carpet but those involved must be unmasked so that nobody could dare to hatch any sordid plot against the country in future.
