Akbar steers Karachi Whites to win over Lahore

Rawalpindi—Karachi Whites’ skipper Akbar-ur-Rehman produced a superb knock of 65 off 38 balls, while all-rounder Tariq Haroon scored brisk 42 off 18 balls to steer their side to a seven-wicket win over Lahore Blues in their match of Cool and Cool Present Jazz National T20 Cup here at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
Akbar’s innings included eight four and two sixes, while Tariq hammered three sixes and equal number of boundaries.
Karachi Whites’ opener Ahsan Ali went back early after scoring 14 off 12 balls.
Experienced Asad Shafiq failed to create any dent for the opponent side as he departed on 10 runs off nine balls.
Zain Abbas, who opened the innings with Ashsan collected 39 runs off 32 balls with the help of six boundaries. But Akbar and Tariq Haroon’s splendid batting shattered all Lahore Whites’ hope as they won they fashioned win in 18 overs.
Lahore Whites Ehsan Abid, Zia-ul-Haq and Ahmad Butt got one wicket each, conceding 29, 32 and 44 runs, respectively.
Earlier, putting to bat first Lahore Whites put a decent total of 178 on the board for the lost of two wickets. Their captain Kamran Akmal departed on the duck on the very fast ball he faced. His catch was taken by Asad Shafiq on the bowling of right-arm medium Tariq Haroon.
One-down batsman Imran Butt also fell cheaply as he was bowled by right-arm fast-medium Sohail Khan.
However, Salman Butt, who opened the innings with Kamran Akmal played a solid knokc of 73 runs off 57 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes.
It was, however; Umar Akmal, whose batting was a treat for every eye. Coming on two-down position, the young Akmal made brisk 81 off 44 balls, hammering six boundaries and as many sixes. His catch was taken at the boundary on the bowling of right-arm medium-fast Akbar-ur-Rehman. Amad Butt scored unbeaten four off five balls.
Akbar-ur-Rehman was declared player-of-the-match for his match winning performance.—APP
