The Government of Punjab and Asian Development Bank are preparing a new $250 million urban sector project that will improve urban infrastructure and services in the cities of Sahiwal and Sialkot.
The phase I of the project will cover the above two cities to improve urban infrastructure such as clean water, sewage system, sanitation facilities, parks, streets and bus terminals. Earlier in March, the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also met the ADB team in his office in Lahore and requested them to implement this valued project without any further delay.
The phase II of the project will cover three more intermediate cities i.e. Bhawalpur, Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan and will be approved in 2018. “The project is important in Sahiwal and Sialkot to improve the living standards of common people. We hope ADB will approve the project by July this year,” said Dr. Nasir Javed, CEO of the Urban Unit.
