Activate back channels with India

SINCE the freedom movement in occupied Kashmir has taken a new turn with the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, the situation is also getting tense with each passing day between Pakistan and India. Though Pakistan is sending gesture of sweets and dialogue, yet the Indian side is bent upon provocation as has always been its hallmark against Islamabad.
On Independence Day, Pakistani troops as a goodwill gesture, presented sweets to the Indian troops at the Wahg border but the Indian border security forces on the other hand while using all types of heavy weapons including mortar and artillery resorted to unprovoked firing on the LOC. Similarly, on Friday, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz offered exclusive talks to New Delhi on Kashmir issue but the response from the Indian side demonstrates that it is not interested to discuss the core dispute which in fact could act as a flashpoint between the two nuclear states anytime. As the extremists are reigning supreme under Modi, Shiv Sena is once again spitting venom against Pakistan and called for shutting down of Pak High Commission offices in New Delhi and Mumbai. In order to divert the attention from ongoing atrocities in occupied Kashmir, Narendra Modi also came in the fore saying the people of Balochistan wants freedom from Pakistan – the assertion strongly and rightly rejected by Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri. Everybody knows what is happening in the Province is the plot of RAW and the confessional statement of arrested serving Naval Officer Kulbushan Yadav vindicates that very point. Nevertheless, this tension in relations is not in the interest of the region. Both the countries possess nuclear weapons and the breakout of any conflict could prove to be more disastrous than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Therefore, we will suggest that the back channels should immediately be revived in order to pave the way for comprehensive dialogue — the only panacea to resolve all the disputes peacefully.
