Acting Speaker annoyed over delay in construction of family suite

Islamabad—Acting Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi has expressed annoyance over the delay in construction of Additional Family Suite and servant quarters for the accommodation purpose of Parliament and their staff. He said that due to incompetence, non cooperative attitude and negligence of officers of Capital Development Authority (CDA) the project which suppose to be completed in 2013 cannot finished till date. He expressed these views during his meeting with Chairman CDA Ansar Aziz at Parliament House. Acting Speaker said that the project was started in 2011 and final completion date of the project was stipulated December 2013, however CDA had extended the time period and granted extension to construction firm twice. He said that National Assembly Standing Committee on House and Library had instructed the CDA time and again to bound the construction firm to expedite pace of work on the project and to complete it with in extended completion period which was 30th of September to 2016.
Murtaza Javed Abbasi said that former Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal and Member Engineering CDA has made repeated commitments before the committee that project will be completed within stipulated time, however on ground no practical steps was taken to fulfill their commitments. He said that former Chairman and Member Engineering had made false statements and mis-lead the committee during last 3 year in this regard.
He said that there are more than 100 Parliamentarians who have no official accommodation and demanding for it from last 3 year. He said that it was very embarrassing for him and other member of the committee to satisfied them as CDA gave new date of completion of the project in every meeting of the committee.
He lamented the non cooperative and irresponsible attitude of CDA toward the committee decisions and directed Chairman CDA to conduct an inquiry to investigate the reasons of delay in construction of Additional Family Suite and take stern action against the officers who were responsible of this failure. The Chairman CDA assured the Acting Speaker that he would personally look into matter and will submit detail report regarding the non- implementation of committee decisions and delay in construction of Additional Family Suite within 15 days.
