Abbottabad stun Haripur by 3-1 in hockey final

Peshawar—Abbottabad stunned spirited Haripur in a thrilling final by 3-1 in the Khyber Pakthunkhwa Under-23 Hazara Region Inter-District Men Games which concluded at Hockey Complex Abbottabad Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Ammara Amir Khattak was the chief guest on this occasion. Director Sports Operation Tariq Mehmood, Organizing Secretary Syed Saqlain Shah, Ahmad Zaman, DSO Haripur, Director Sports BISE Shakeel Awan, international hockey player Shafqat Ullah officials, players and large number of spectators were also present. Before the start of the final match between Abbottabad and Haripur the players were introduced to the chief guest. The match was started on fast tempo and both Abbottabad and Haripur forwards raided on each other territory time and gain with some fine moves were also witnessed. It was in the 8th minute when unmarked inside left Khawar found the net with his forceful hit from the top of the circle. It was goal on the rebound, as Mehmood after dodging three defenders dispatched a full-bladed reverse hit but Haripur goal-keeper Rizwan padded it nicely and on the second attempt Khawar succeeded in scoring a nice goal to make the tally 1-0. Abbottabad was leading the first quarter and it was the second quarter when Abbottabad scored another goal through left winger Mehmood on the field attempt. At the end of the first two-quarters Abbottabad was leading by 2-0. It was the third quarter when Mehmood slammed it again with a nice goal on the field attempt to make the tally 3-0. Haripur played well but most adopted individual bursts and thus in the dying moments of the last quarter Adnan reduced the margin on the field attempt to make the tally 3-1. Zaheer and Abdur Rehman supervised the match. Earlier, Abbottabad gave a superb performance by winning 11 disciplines out of total 15 part of the Abbottabad Region Inter-District Men Games. Abbottabad got first position with 95 points, Haripur remained at second by taking first position in three different games while Mansehra got 25 points. Abbottabad claimed six gold and two silver medal in Judo by securing 74 points, followed by Haripur with two gold and three silver secured 41 points and Mansehra took four silver medal with 28 points took third position. Haripur defeated Abbottabad in volleyball by 3-0, the score was 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21. In Basketball Abbottabad and Manshera were declared as joint winner, in football Abbottabad defeated Mansehra by 5-1. In squash Abbottabad defeated Haripur by 3-0. At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes of Rs 15,000 for the winners and Rs 10,000 for the runners-up.—APP
