Sohail Warind, Acting Chairman Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) has said that the dream of Prime Minister Imran Khan to build five million affordable houses during five years under Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme will never come true if special incentives are not provided to builders and developers. In a statement, Sohail Warind said that it is the responsibility of the government to provide affordable houses with all facilities to people from lower strata of the society. Appreciating announcement of the Prime Minister for building Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme, he said that it is unfortunate that no homework has been done to realize such a huge scheme. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was briefed about affordable housing scheme of ABAD when he visited ABAD House twice before taking over helm of country’s affairs. Imran Khan was briefed at that time that basic facilities including electricity, gas, water, infrastructure and One Window System for making Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme a success story, he said adding that unfortunately despite passing one and a half year nothing has done to realize this goal. Sohail Warind said that financial institutes are playing basic role in success of mega projects like Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme through providing loans on easy terms. He said that in every country people from low income groups are provided facilities of financing their housing needs on easy terms by banking channels and builders and developers are provided One Window Facility to complete such projects in time but nothing has been done in our country in this direction. He said that people from low income groups were happy to hear that the new government is taking Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme as a serious venture to facilitate people but now they have lost their confidence as nothing is done to realize their dreams of having a shelter which is not good for the society. Acting Chairman ABAD pointed out that only 44 months are left for fulfillment of Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme that means one lac houses should be built every month for which the federal government should take private sector into confidence and provide all basic facilities on priority and One Window Operation immediately otherwise the dream of the Prime Minister will remain a dream only.
