The eight-day inject able/inactivated polio vaccine(IPV) and Oral Polio drops(OPV) campaign that started in 30 high risk union councils of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation,Tehsil Taxila and Rawalpindi Cantonment areas has achieved 97% target while the remaining would be met till October 17.
Talking to APP, District Polio Incharge Muhammad Hussain said more than 97 per cent target has been achieved, admitting that children had missed immunization for certain reasons like being out of city or not present at home etc.
Under the drive, teams were being visiting 11 union councils of the city ,4 union councils of Tehsil Rawalpindi,6 union councils of Taxila and 9 wards of Rawalpindi Cantonment area which have been declared high-risk areas.
The Polio Incharge said that inactivated polio vaccine(IPV) through injections were being administered to children below two years of age, in addition oral polio vaccine (OPV)are also being administered to children under five years of age.
He said that IPV was more effective as it enhance the immune system of the child to fight the crippling disease at least for a year and it was being done on the recommendation of World Health Organization (WHO).—APP
