The Forest Department has brought 800 hectares land under plantation in the first manmade forest, which was being raised at Ghari Chandan in Peshawar.
Shafqat Munir, Conservator Southern Circle on occasion of distributing free plants among farmers and general public here told APP that work on Ghari Chandan forest was in full swing and a record 800 hactares land has been brought under plantation to counterbalance the effects of global warming and climate change.
He said plantation on the nearby Azakhel forest has been accelerated where 400 hectares was brought under forestry cover. The Conservator said 4.6 million plants of different species would be distributed free of cost among farmers, national building institutions and general public during ongoing spring season.
The distribution of plants free of cost among farmers and general public have been started and priorities are being given to local species like poplars being distributed in Nowshera, Peshawar and Charsadda districts to make the campaign a success. He said poplars are most suited for Peshawar division climate and cash earning plants.—APP
