700 heart patients to get free stents: Minister


Quetta—Provincial Health Minister, Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch Wednesday said that next year, 700 poor patients suffering from heart disease would be given free of cost stents which were used in medical operation of heart, adding that poor patients could not afford to purchase stents as those were very costly.
He along with Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Quetta, Dr. Abdul Rehman and Dr. Abid Amin was addressing a press conference, here. He refuted the reports which predicted the lack of medical facilities at state-run hospitals in Balochistan, particularly in the provincial capital Quetta.
“All wards and departments at government-run hospitals have been made functional and patients have no need to purchase medicines and necessary items from private medical stores as all things are available at hospital free of cost,” he said. He said that 490 patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases have been given free of cost stents, adding that the provincial government incurred the expenditures of their medical operations.
He said: “A patient suffering from cardiovascular diseases had to bear Rs 1.5 million expenditures on his medical operation,” adding that but the Balochistan government purchased 500 stents which used during the medical operations and provided them to 490 patients free of cost.
He said that 1430 patients were provided with angiography facility and over 1086, angioplasty facilities on government expenditures at Civil Hospital Quetta.—APP
