Nawaz, Pervaiz condemn; Qaim announces Rs5m reward for helping arrest terrorists
Karachi—Seven cops were targeted and martyred in just seven minutes in two terror acts in Bangla Bazar area and Sector No. 15 of Orangi Town on Wednesday.
The cops were performing security duty for the protection of volunteers of the anti-polio drive in Karachi. The ages of the martyred policemen in two attacks ranged from 35 to 50. Despite sensitivity of the locality with regard to dominance of terrorist outfits, SSU Commandos were not deployed.
The eight terrorists riding terrorists on 4 motorcycles targeted 3 cops in first attack, with lethal assault weapons. Subsequent to that attack, 3 cops were gunned down and they died on the spot. No volunteer was injured or killed in the attack, which indicates that the terrorist were trained and chose their target precisely. The terrorists on the run after also attacked the cops in police van leaving 4 cops dead.
The cops, who were martyred in two attacks, were Wazir Ahmed 38, Abdul Sattar 40, Ghulam Rasool 35, Rustam 50, Ismail, Daim Ud Din and Gul Khan. The bodies of the deceased cops were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the Medico-Legal Officer on duty declared all were brought dead to the hospital. Terrorists had shot them all in their chest and heads.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, district West Feroze Shah, the terrorists had reached the volunteers of the anti-polio drive and started chatting with them, which the cops on security duty noticed and warned the terrorists to go away.
In the meantime, accomplices of those terrorists had started shooting the cops. Two of the cops had died on the spot while the third one succumbed o his injuries during medical resuscitation.
The terrorists in second lethal attack on cops targeted cops in a police van No. SP-3885 in Sector 15-D near Fauji Hotel. In the attack, 4 cops lost their lives.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Sindh A D Khawaja also visited the venue of crimes in Orangi Town and said that there was no prior information pertaining to this terror attack.
However, those involved in the attack would soon be taken to task. The enemies, who are conspiring against the country, would also be exposed soon, he added.
He also said that police performing security duty of 5000 teams of anti-polio drive. The heirs of the cops, who have laid their lives, are given jobs in police department and compensation money to the tune of Rs2 million.
He also said that anyone, who would assist police for arresting the terrorists, would be given Rs5m reward.
On the other hand, Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Major-General Bilal Akbar also visited the crime scenes. He told newsmen that investigations have been initiated and the terrorist would soon be apprehended. He appealed to the people to share any information about the terrorists and names of those who would share the information would be kept secret.
The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired a meeting to discuss the tragic incident.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Sohail Siyal, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo, IGP Sindh AD Khawaja and Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Maher.
IG A D Khawaja briefing the chief minister said that he rushed to the spot where the incident took place and got the bodies shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Rangers DG also reached there.
The Police and Rangers cordoned off the area and started operation to arrest the culprits. DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar also briefed the chief minister about the incident.
The CM also directed the IG to continue the salaries of the killed policemen till the age of their retirement. He said that the sacrifices of the policemen who laid down their lives in the line of their duties would not go in vain.
APP adds: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Police personnel in Karachi.
The Prime Minister said the sacrifices of Police in the entire country and particularly in reviving peace in Karachi were unparalleled.
“They have sacrificed themselves today for securing the future of our coming generations,” the Prime Minister said in a statement released from the PM House.
He said police and other law enforcing agencies were rendering sacrifices in the entire country and deserved appreciation for fighting terror.
Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid also strongly condemned the incidents of firing on police personnel in Karachi.
In a statement, the minister said that such cowardly acts of terror can never weaken the resolve of the nation against terrorism and extremism.
He said that the whole nation stood united to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from the soil of the motherland.
“We will not rest till the elimination of last terrorist from the soil of Pakistan and we will not shy away from any sacrifice while securing the life of the citizens,” he added.
The minister said that valiant soldiers and security forces are laying down their lives to eliminate terrorists and smash their evil network. “They are sacrificing their today to secure our tomorrow,” he added.
Their sacrifices in the battle against terrorism and extremism would not go waste, he said. The minister expressed deep grief and sorrow with the families of the persons who lost their lives in the attacks.
