530 profiteers sent to jail during last week

Islamabad—Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has intensified on-going anti-profiteering drive and raiding parties inspected 700 shops during last week and sent 530 profiteers to jail for over charging and selling sub-standard food items.
In a press statement issued by the spokesman of ICT Administration, it has been said that 41notice were issued to various food outlets for selling unhygienic food while 18 challans of hotels, bakeries and restaurants were submitted in the court during last week.
The inspecting teams carried out 200 inspections of shops and sealed four food outlets including one Dates Stall, a hotel, two bakeries and restaurants. The administration has directed the food outlets to ensure compliance of food safety laws failing which stern legal action will be taken against the violators.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Abdul Sattar Esani told that 253 profiteers have been imposed fines Rs. 17,00,000 during daily price checking in Ramadan.
The raiding teams are also carrying out checking of quality of milk, yogurt, sweets and samples are being sent to laboratory for analysis. Those selling sub-standard food items and over-charging would not be spared.—APP
