5 youths injured during pro-militant protest

Srinagar—A youth received bullet injuries in his leg and four others were wounded after being hit by teargas canisters and pellet ammunition during a protest against the operation being carried out by the government forces against two to three militants holed up inside the EDI building in Pampore.
Gowhar Ahmad was taken to sub-district hospital Pampore after being hit by the bullet but doctors there referred him to Bone and Joint Hospital in view of the severity of his injuries.
While two youths were hit by teargas canisters, the other two received multiple injuries because of pellet ammunition.
Eyewitnesses said the forces opened fire after the Scorpio car they were travelling in was attacked with stones near Pampore by the protesters, who were shouting “Lashkar ke mujahido, hum tumhare saat hai (holy warriors of Lashkar, we endorse your fight)” and other pro-freedom slogans.—KR
