5 killed, 9 injured in seminary roof collapse

Dera Ghazi Khan—Five children were killed while nine others received serious injuries when roof of a seminary collapsed at Multan road in the suburban area of the city on Tuesday. According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred at a seminary at Geederwala bypass where roof collapsed suddenly causing death of three children on the spot while two others breathed their last at DHQ teaching hospital.
The dead were identified as Shafiq (6), Ijaz s/o Mustafa, Irfan s/o Iqbal, 4 years old Hamza s/o Arshad, and 7 years old Naveed s/o Abdul Aziz. The injured included: Irfan s/o Mureed, Mujeeb s/o Sadiq, Rashid s/o Nawaz, Yousuf s/o Ashiq, Nadir s/o Sabir, Muhammad Akhtar s/o Asghar, Yousuf s/o Fareed, Ansar s/o Bashir, and Mudassir. They were rushed to DHQ hospital for treatment.
On receiving information, rescuers reached the spot. Meanwhile, DCO Nadeem Ur Rahman, DPO Captain (Retd) Ata Muhammad, and other officials also visited Madarsah Rehmania at Multan road where district officer (emergency) Dr. Natiq Hayat briefed the DCO about the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the DCO chaired a meeting and ordered officials concerned to submit a detailed report on the condition of buildings of schools and Madarsahs in the district and those found to be unfit for activities be closed to keep lives of students safe.
He warned officials of action in case of delay. He ordered the EDO education and director colleges to submit reports immediately after completing a survey.—APP
