356 mini projects underway in KP to produce cheap electricity

Peshawar—Provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is engaged seriously in completion of energy projects on fast track basis in order to pull the country out of currently energy crisis vis-a-vis strengthen the economy of the province by the production of cheap electricity through hydropower resources. This was stated by Secretary Energy & Power Engr. Naeem Khan and Chief Executive Officer PEDO Akbar Ayub Khan during a visit of the running projects sites at Jabori HPP, Mansehra, Karora HPP, Shangla, Ranolia HPP Kohistan and Daral Khwar HPP, Swat in order to monitor the work progress said a press release issued here on Sunday.
Both high-ups of the energy department examined the progress and directed to the concerned strictly to boost the pace of work in order to make available the projects within specified time period. They reiterated that inefficiency would be unbearable in this context.
There will be no compromise over the quality and early completions of projects while the contractors, consultant and project director would be treated harshly in case of delay or showing any sluggishness at project working.
During the visit CEO PEDO, Akbar Ayub Khan briefed that the construction work is in progress at 6 hydropower projects of about 214 MW which is the highest ever pace of work in the history of PEDO. By the end of current year three projects of 56 MW will start generation. He stated that in order to develop the local and foreign investment in province six hydropower projects have been advertised to offer in private sector for implementation causing two billion dollars investment in province viz. Arkari Gol (Chitral) 99 MW, Naran dam (mansehra) 188 MW, Shigo kach (Lower Dir) 102 MW.—APP
