As many as 28 shops with goods worth millions of rupees were gutted due to wild fire in a commercial plaza here on Monday.
Rescue sources said that the fire initiated due to an electric short circuit in a garments shop located in a plaza of New Anarkali in the provincial capital Lahore in the wee hours engulfed the surrounding shop.
The rescue teams and fire fighters with six fire tenders rushed the scene of fire and started efforts to extinguish the blaze.
The shopkeepers also helped the rescue teams and firefighters in putting out the fire.
The blaze was put off after hectic efforts of more than nine hours.
The inferno gutted 26 shops in the basement and two shops at the ground floor along with goods worth millions of rupees.
The affected shopkeepers have demanded of the Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for financial assistance so that they can restart their businesses to earn livelihood for their families as the fire deprived them of their lifelong earnings.
