Srinagar—The Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Muhammad Yousuf Naqash has paid glowing tributes to Aasiya and Neelofar on their 7th martyrdom anniversary and said that strict action should be taken against the culprits.
Aasiya and Neelofar were abducted by Indian men in Uniform on May 29 in 2009 and raped in custody. Their bodies were recovered from a shallow stream in the town on the next morning.Muhammad Yousuf Naqash along with party leaders Showkat Ahmad Khan and Sajjad Ahmad Lone visited the Rambiar Nallah, Shopian, where an event in memory of Asiya and Neelofar was organised.
Addressing the gathering, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash said that the Shopian double rape and murder was one of the dastardly and shameful acts by the men in uniform in Kashmir.
Syed Bashir Andrabi, Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, Mohammad Yasin Atai, Bilal Sidiqui, ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Farooq Tauheedi, activists of Democratic Freedom Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League and Muslim Khawateen Markaz took out a rally in Shopian to remember the two women, Aasiya and Neelofar. They also demanded impartial probe into the incident and exemplary punishment to the involved Indian troops.
Hurriyet leader Javaid Ahmad Mir in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying glowing tributes to Asiya and Neelofar of Shopian said that despite the passage of seven years, India and its stooges in the territory had failed to arrest and punish the people involved in their rape and murder.
Condemning the arrest of pro-freedom leadership including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Yasin Malik, termed it the worst kind of human rights violation and frustration of the authorities. The protesters demanded strict action against the troopers involved in the rape and murder of the two women.—KMS
