Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said on Saturday that the Health Department would give good news about promotion of lady health workers (LHWs) and lady health supervisors.
While talking to the media here, she said the department had already completed working on preparing seniority lists of lady health supervisor and lady health workers. In such a situation, giving a call for a protest and sit-in was not less than blackmailing, she added.
The minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had always acknowledged genuine demands of doctors, lady health workers and employees of Health Department.
She said that currently 44,000 LHWs are performing their duties in the province and after 2009, it is for the first time that the lady health supervisors and lady health workers are being hired throughout the province.
She said that recruitment process of LHWs would be formally started from this year throughout the province.
Moreover, the department is helping in disbursement of arrears to the heirs of LHWs who died during service, she added.
Dr Yasmin Rashid said that after formation of the PTI government in Punjab, there was not a single day passed when she did not pay a visit to check attendance of doctors, availability of medicines and provision of treatment facilities in public-sector hospitals.
She said that 80 per cent positive change had been witnessed in all these issues which was a good omen. She said that people were forced to buy costly medical facilities from few private hospitals because previous governments did not take any steps to construct new hospitals in view of the increasing population. “We are striving to provide modern and best treatment facilities in public sector hospitals to facilitate patients,” she said.
The minister said that accountability process had been started in the Health Department. She said that action had been taken against illegal warehouses and against those officers who were responsible for delaying purchase of medicines.
Basic purpose of changing the law of Pakistan Kidney Liver Institute was to ensure the best treatment facilities to patients, she concluded.
Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Special Secretary Mudassar Riaz, Additional Secretary Fatima Sheikh and Director General Health Services Punjab Dr Muneer Ahmad were also present.
