2-day meeting of CII commences

Islamabad—A two day meeting of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) would commence from Monday to deliberate and opine about contemporary issues. The 203rd meeting would be chaired by Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, a sitting member of National Assembly of Jamiat ulemae Islam Fazl (JUI-F) from Balochistan.
The council is likely to deliberate on various agenda items including Islamic injunctions about juvenile marriage, deliberations on Punjab’s Women Protection against violence act, recommendation on Women Protection Bill of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, twenty first constitutional amendment, women political representation, and preventing children from corporal punishments, etc.
Meanwhile, Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is stall working with only 10 members following the retirement of 10 members in January and March this year. CII consists of 20 members. Each member is appointed for a period of three years with the approval of the prime minister. Mufti Ghulam Mustafa Rizvi, Syed Saeed Ahmed Shah Gujrati, Hafiz Mahmood Tahir Ashrafi, Allama Muhammad Yousaf Awan, Mian Abdul Baki and Mufti Muhammad Ibrahim Qadri and Muhammad Mushtaq Kalota were retired in Jan last, while Allama Muhammad Amin Shahidi, Maulana Fazal Ali and Dr Mufti Muhammad Idrees Somroo had completed their tenure in March.
According to rules of the council, at least four meetings of the CII are mandatory during a year and a quorum of seven members is imperative to call a meeting.—APP
