19 Balochistan districts targeted, 5m KP, FATA children set for vaccination

A three-day national polio immunization campaign begins in the federal capital and other parts of the country from Monday. Thousands of teams have been formed for the drive against the crippling disease with hopes to eliminate the virus this year, official sources while talking to Radio Pakistan said. Children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign. Foolproof security measures have been taken to ensure security of Polio teams across the country.
A three days anti-polio campaign began in Fata and 13 districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa on Monday where about 4.669 million children blow five years of age would be vaccinated with the help of 12547 teams. Officials in Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) told APP here that the campaign was launched in all agencies, frontier regions of Fata including afghan refugees and TDPs camps and 13 districts of KP. In KP, the campaign commenced in 13 districts including Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Swat, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and DI Khan today. Approximately, 36,55,517 children in KP would be administered polio drops with the help of 12,547 teams include 10,918 mobile, 848 fixed, 609 transit and 172 roaming teams. In Fata, around 1,034,660 children would be vaccinated by 4,317 teams comprising 3,931 mobile, 290 fixed and 96 transit teams. As many as 22 camps of Afghan refugee would also be visited by vaccinators to administer anti polio drops to their children. All the wings of health department besides supporting agencies were extending full cooperation to make the campaign successful.
Three day anti-polio campaign will launch in 19 districts of Balochistan from Monday, said Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Balochistan Coordinator Syed Faisal Ahmed. He stated that during the campaign more than 1808438 children will be administered polio vaccine. Security arrangements for the campaign had been completed. He said during the campaign, around 6761 teams would be in the field with 5934 mobile teams, 495 fixed sites and 332 transit points. The campaign would start in these districts, Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Barkhan, Chagai Jafarabad, Kila Saifulah, Loralai, Musa Kheel, Naseerabad, Zhob, sheerani, Jhal Magsi, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Lasbella, Mastung, Noshki and Dera Bugti. He assured to have full proof security arrangements with the deployment of Balochistan Levies, police and frontier corps personnel. He further added that polio virus was still present in our environment as per environmental samples report and we were worried that the virus could affect any child any time specially those who had less immunity against the disease.—APP
