162 power pilferers held in Sept

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) apprehended 162 electricity thieves from various circles of the company in September in raids during its ongoing drive against power pilferers. The spokesman told APP here that 37 culprits were held red handed from Islamabad, 50 from Rawalpindi, 54 from Attock, 12 from Jhelum and nine from Chakwal circles. They were found involved in power theft through direct line (Kunda system) and by broken security strip of the meter, he added.
He said cases had been lodged against power thieves under the Electricity (Amendment) Act.
Meanwhile, IESCO Chief Basit Zaman Ahmed said that electricity theft is national and moral crime. Power pilferers are enemy of country, he said. The IESCO chief directed all field officers and staff to spend time in field and check meters of all tariff according to schedule.
Basit Zaman also requested customer to take part in the electricity anti-theft campaign and if they found any one stealing electricity, make call on numbers mentioned on bill, or on IESCO Help Line “118” ,text to “Roshni” SMS Service 8398 or Call IESCO Central Complaint and Management Cell No. 051-9253206 -08.—APP
