16 suspects arrested during raids in different areas

Karachi—Law enforcement agencies on Sunday arrested 16 suspects, including two activists of a political party, during raids in different parts of the metropolis.
On a tip-off, police and other law enforcement agencies arrested two members of a political party, Rizwan alias Bayya and Khurram from North Nazimabad for their involvement in target killings and extortion.
Eleven more suspects were arrested during a search operation in Pakistan Bazaar area of Orangi Town. The police said arms were also recovered from their possession.
Two drug peddlers identified as Muinuddin and Ayaz Ali were arrested from Sohrab Goth while a dacoit identified as Uzair was arrested after shootout with police in Rizvia Society.
35-year-old Riaz Hussain was shot dead in Kemari during a clash between two groups. Separately, two persons including a woman were injured in firing incident in Landhi.
Meanwhile, in a drive against criminals, Karachi’s South Zone Police have arrested some 50 accused from the jurisdiction of 18 police stations.
A statement on Sunday said that those arrested included three alleged terrorists and absconders, target killers and other criminals. It said that four hand grenades, Kalashnikov, 13 pistols, snatched vehicles and looted good recovered from the possession of the accused.—INP
