One hundred and twenty eight people including Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, younger brother of former chief minister Balochistan Aslam Raisai and BAP candidate for Balochistan Assembly, were martyred and over 200 others injured on Friday in a suicide blast in Mastung, provincial Health Minister Faiz Kakar has confirmed.
These people were martyred when a suicide explosion, claimed by Daesh, hit an election gathering in the Darengarh area of Mastung, officials said.
Levies sources said the blast targeted a corner meeting organised by Siraj, a Balochistan Awami Party candidate for PB-35 (Mastung).
“Mir Siraj Raisani succumbed to his wounds while he was being shifted to Quetta,” Agha Umar Bungalzai, provincial home minister, told media.
Balochistan’s Civil Defence Director Aslam Tareen as well as Bungalzai both said the blast was a suicide attack.
Deputy Commissioner Mastung have confirmed the toll in the deadly attack, third such attack in three days to have targeted election rallies. “Mir Siraj Raisani succumbed to wounds while he was being shifted to Quetta,” caretaker provincial Home MInister Agha Umar said. He also confirmed the blast was a suicide attack.
Confirming the death toll, Deputy Commissioner Qaim Lashari said that nearly 150 people were wounded in the blast.
Lashkari Raisani confirmed his brother Siraj had lost his life in the explosion. “Aslam Raisani and I are also receiving threats,” he said.
