Lahore—Young players dominated the first round of the three rounds 6th Faldo Series golf event here on Friday at Defence Raya Golf course.
Young hones managed to prove their expertise and came up with scores that can be graded in the superb range.
While this championship includes players in the under 21 years age group, under 18 years age group and under 16 years age group, the best score card of the day was produced by Damil Ataullah of Royal Palm and he belongs to the age group under 16 years.
He displayed the abilities of a champion and during the first round his hitting carried a touch of accuracy and power and with his height and petite build one does not associate long shots from him but he defied all limitations and odds to hit powerfully and his tee shots were loaded with rhythm.
The tee shots length and accuracy was backed by crisp fairway shots and the combination of hitting off the tees and shot making from the fairways fetched him regulation pars with consistent regularity.
His overall aggregate score was gross 72 and this represents the best card of the day and he occupies the top position on the leader board where many of his seniors lie way behind.
Interestingly there are two other players in the age category under 16 years who came up with brilliant rounds also.Mohammed Saqib of lahore Garrison Golf Club lies second with a score of gross 75 and Rao Harris is third and his score is gross 76.
The competition in age category under 18 years also turned out to be intense and Murtaza Abbas Naqvi of PAF Islamabad ,exhibited well timed tee shots along with nerves free putting on the greens to manage a round of gross 74,thus becoming the best one in his age group. He looks battle hardened and not for a moment was he perturbed by the sharp competition and also by the fact that he was playing on the demanding Defence Raya Golf Course for the first time. “I just loved the speed and beauty of the greens”,he said and further added “I will play better over the next two rounds”.
His nearest competitors in the under 18 years group are Ahmad Baig of Lahore Garrison and Ibrahim of Rawalpindi. Ahmad Baig is placed at a score of 76 and Ibrahim is at 77.
The relatively senior ones in the age group under 21 years did not fare too well on the first day and their scores lack the champions touch. The leader in this category lies at a score of 77 and he is Nadeem Aslam of Garrison Golf Club.Ahmed Sultan Kayani of the same club is at 79 and also at 79 is Saim Shazli of Karachi Golf Club.
As for the girls ,the best performance in the first round was by Rimsha Ijaz. She managed a first round score of gross 81. Suneya Osama is two strokes behind at 83 and Aania Farooq is at 84.
