World Food Day observed in city


Lahore—The World Food Day was observed on Sunday in the provincial capital under the theme ‘The climate is changing, Food and Agriculture must too’. In a message regarding the World Food Day, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said food had always been a basic necessity of human beings and it was the most important issue in the present age. He said those who had surplus food should share it with the less-fortunate people of society. He said the purpose of observing World Food Day was to create awareness about hunger,starvation and insufficient supply of food. The CM said the basic purpose of this day was to consider important issues pertaining to shortage of food and evolve practicable recommendations. Shehbaz Sharif said that the day was also important due to the fact that it was aimed at promoting public awareness to eliminate the causes of hunger and poverty. He said keeping in view the problem of shortage of food, the Punjab government had started short, medium and long-term projects. The Chief Minister said that government was giving various incentives in the agriculture sector for ensuring food security.
He said that provincial government was taking solid measures to ensure availability of food to those suffering from hunger and starvation.The CM said the government was implementing huge projects for ensuring supply of healthy and balanced diet to the masses. Shehbaz Sharif said that awareness was the first step towards food conservation. APP
