Seven hockey matches decided in 1st round
Islamabad—Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada said on Saturday that winners of various disciplines of Inter Board Sports competitions would get a chance to go abroad for training.
He was speaking as chief guest at the opening ceremony of Inter Board Sports (Girls) Competitions 2016 which started here at Pakistan Sports Complex.
Over 600 girl players from 26 educational boards from across the country are competing in the competitions.
Welcoming the players, Pirzada said that it was heartening to note that a large number of girls were taking keen interest in the sports.
He asked players to take part in the event with a spirit to stand first in every competition.
He noted that in the 12th South Asian Games 2016, Pakistani athletes’ performance, especially female athletes had been encouraging.
Quoting a message from Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he said that the young generation should participate in sports and other healthy activities to show to the world soft image of the country. Meanwhile, seven matches were decided of first round of Inter Board Sports Competitions-2016 (Girls) here at Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.
Hyderabad, Mardan, Larkana, Karachi and Abbotabad bagged victories in their respective opening matches.
Hyderabad beat Peshawar 1-0, while Mardan, Larkana, Karachi and Abbotabad defeated Sukkur, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Rawalpindi 4-0, 4-0, 1-0 and 1-0, respectively.
Faisalabad got walkover against Hyderabad, while Mardan defeated Larkana 3-0 in the last match of the day.—APP
