White Cane Day observed


Sargodha—A ceremony to mark the White Cane Day was held at a private school here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Faisal Farooq Cheema said the government was providing facilities to people with disabilities for making them useful citizen.
He said that various surveys had been conducted which help government departments to clarify needs, resources and policies for people with disabilities.
He said that many projects and schemes had been launched in the area to help the needy and deprived .
Meanwhile, it is reported that International White Cane Day was also observed in Faisalabad district with a pledge to facilitate the blind in all spheres of life.
In this connection, a function was also organised at National Special Education Centre, Millat Town, here on Saturday.
Addressing the participants, MNAs Begum Khalida Mansoor and Chaudhry Shahbaz Babar said that the special persons were important segment of society and we should come forward for their welfare and rehabilitation to bring them into mainstream of national development.
They said that Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had focused on betterment of the blind to make them useful citizens of society.
They highlighted the steps of Punjab government that had been taken for the welfare of blind person and said that quota of special persons had increased from 2 to 3 percent in government jobs while 10 years relaxation in the age had been given to the applicants.—APP
