Lahore—Wapda will hold trials for the selection of young cricketers at Wapda Sports Complex, here on November 28.
The trails are being conducted under ‘Focus on Fitness and Fielding (FFF)’, scheme being introduced by Wapda in a bid to improve fielding standards in cricket of the country. Young boys from 16 to 19 years of age are eligible to appear in the trials, said a spokesman for Wapda Sports Board, here on Thursday.
He said that Wapda introduced FFF scheme as one of its initiatives last year. “Under WAPDA FFF scheme, 40 young cricketers will be selected from across the country this year,” he added.
Prior to trials in Lahore, Wapda Sports Board had already organised the trials in seven other cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Multan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Faisalabad during October and November for the purpose, he added.
“The 40 selected young cricketers will be invited to join a four-day coaching camp at Lahore, where they would be imparted training by Wapda Sports Board coaches to improve their fitness as well as fielding skills with the help of latest techniques. On conclusion of the camp, the best fielder will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while four other players securing second to fifth positions will be given Rs 25,000 each,” he asserted.—APP
