Violence against women

A newly-wed girl, who was burnt allegedly by her husband and brother-in-law a few days back died in hospital. Khatoon of Sillanwali, Sargodha district, got married to Nadeem of Kot Isra Shah, Jhang district, about sixth months ago. However, she left her husband’s house just after 15 days because of her strained relationship with her husband. Her in-laws eventually brought her back through a Panchayat some 10 days before incident. Khatoon’s father, Saeed Staled, in his complaint to police, stated his son-in-law Nadeem and his brother sprinkled kerosene oil on her, locked her in a room and fled.
Khatoon started screaming and her neighbours came to rescue her. They took her to the District Hospital, from where she was taken to Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital where she succumbed to her burn injuries. Ghulam Mohammad, uncle of the accused, said Khatoon was alone at home at the time of incident giving an impression that she had committed suicide. It’s the time that all of us, especially women, should raise voice against domestic violence against women.
