UN, US should put pressure on India to resolve Kashmir dispute: Naqash

Srinagar—Leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mohammad Yousuf Naqash has said that the United Nations and the United States should take stand against India which is creating the biggest hurdle in the resolution of the dispute.
In a media statement here on Monday, Yousaf Naqash said the UN, US and other major countries of the world have time and again only expressed concern over the Kashmir situation but have done nothing practical on ground.
He said the world body and these countries should instead pressurize India to express its willingness to resolve the dispute by honouring the UN resolutions. “UN and big powers should hold India accountable for its grave human rights violations it commits in occupied Kashmir and should pressurize the so-called largest democracy of the world to respect the United Nations and the resolutions passed in its security council,” he said.
The Hurriyat leader said it is only India which is creating hurdles in the way of resolving the issue and unless a tough stand is not maintained against India to play its role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute, the peace in the entire South Asia particularly the subcontinent will remain a distant dream.
He said if UN and US continue to do lip-service regarding Kashmir, the unabated skirmishes on the LoC between nuclear neighbouring nations India and Pakistan will anytime snowball into a war which will engulf the whole South Asia and put it to destruction.
Naqash said the UN, US and world leadership are duty-bound to find a lasting and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute so that an everlasting peace is established in the South Asia which will ultimately contribute in ensuring peace across the globe.—INP
