Top amateur golfers feature in CNS Golf

Lahore—Country’s top notch amateur golf players will display their skills and technique during the Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship which will be teed off here from November 25 at the Royal Palm Golf Course.
This was stated by Commodore S.M. Shahzad, Station Commander, Pakistan Navy at a press conference at Royal Palm along with Omer Mir, General Manager, Col (r) Jameel Khalid, Director Golf and Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed, Director Media of the Championship.
Commodore Shahzad said that the championship now moves into the sixth year and with each passing year it is becoming established amateur golfing event of the country.
Pakistan Navy is the sponsor of this prestigious championship and maintains and seeks to enhance its association with sports promotion and development, he added.” The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah is a sports lover and wholeheartedly subscribes to the holding of this national golf event and wishes the best to all participants,” he said.
Omer Mir, General Manager, Royal Palm said that realising the feelings of the national golfers of standing and importance, the Pakistan Navy team steered by men of excellence like Commodore S.M.Shahzad, devote all their energies to make sure that the event helps in further popularizing golf. He said exciting golf will be witnessed during the three premier activity and close competitions are likely to be witnessed among the players.
Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed highlighted that the players consider the Chief of Naval Staff Golf Championship extremely beneficial to their golfing careers. He said some leading and established names of our national golf circuit who are competing for this title are Mohammad Rehman and Mohsin Zafar (Royal Palm), Tariq Mahmood (Islamabad) Ghazanfar Mehmood, Khalid Mehmood and Tashfeen Ashraf (Rawalpindi), Zulfiqar Ali and Ashiq Hussain (Multan), Salman Jehangir and Wazir Ali (Lahore Gymkhana). Amongst the other known players, those who have practiced hard and look capable of causing a substantial dent to the seasoned are Fakhar Imam, Qasim Khan, Sameer Iftikhar, Robin Bagh and Nadeem Aslam.
Amongst the ladies the major contenders are Zaib un Nisa,Sameea Javed Ali and Sameea Javed Ali.
The Juniors who hope to make their mark are Damil Ataullah and AAnish Rehman. Col Jameel explained that the competitors in the Men’s category have to meet certain criteria to be eligible for participation in this national event. “To this end only the skilled ones are allowed with the significant feature being that the entrant must have a handicap of twelve and below. This restriction keeps the average golfers away and opens the doors only to the talented and established golf players,”he added. Col Jameel further informed that the events at stake are,Seniors event, Ladies event, Juniors event and the prime event for amateurs.Some essential details are related below: In the seniors event is defending champion of gross section is Imran Ahmed and in net category is Javed A. Khan. Ladies Event is open to ladies with a handicap of 30 and below.
Defending champion is Rimsha Ijaz in gross category and Mrs Sameea Javed Ali in net section. Juniors event is open to juniors below 18 years of age having handicap 24 and below. Previous winner of Boys gross event is Ali Aanish Rehman and in net it is Danish Ataullah. The main event is for amateurs with a handicap of twelve and below.
Col Jamil said: “The main event for amateurs will be contested over three rounds with 18 holes to be played each day making it a total of 54 holes. Mohammad Rehman of Royal Palm was the title holder in the year 2015 and is there to defend his title.”—APP
