Targeted attack on media

IT was on the recommendation of Interior and Information ministries that Pakistan Observer had put in place necessary security infrastructure from its own resources including protective fence, walk through gates and other surveillance equipment around its building for security purposes but the CDA’s enforcement wing ruined the entire equipment in the name of drive against encroachment despite the fact that the whole security related equipment was installed well within the premises of the building. It merits mentioning that the fence and security –related equipment were erected by the Media House on the consistent advisories by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Ministry of Interior and the concerned Police officials in the backdrop of militant/terrorist attacks on Media Houses. The CDA action indeed is an unprecedented targeted attack on the media outlet which has always pursued the course of objectivity and served supreme national interests.
After turning everything into scrap, the building of this Paper stands fully naked to any security related threat deepening sense of insecurity among Newspaper staff and we want to make it clear to relevant quarters if any untoward incident happens, the entire onus of this will be on the CDA. It is despicable that no action has been taken against the real encroachers and mafias in the vicinity. We believe with such tactics the CDA will not win any patting from any quarter. We are thankful to All Pakistan Newspapers Society for condemning the CDA’s action and expressing solidarity with the Paper at this difficult hour. Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, in a telephonic conversation with the Executive Editor, also expressed her concern on the incident but we understand she could have used her good offices to avert it. We will urge the government and information ministry to take notice of the CDA high handedness as well as compensate the Daily for the losses caused by the brutal operation as a hefty amount was spent on installation of security equipment after the government expressed its inability to provide the same because of financial constraints.
