In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq held a seminar in Srinagar, today, in connection with the Martyrdom Week to pay homage to prominent martyred Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and martyrs of Hawal.
The puppet authorities put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Shahid-ul-Islam under house arrest to prevent them from addressing the seminar titled “Resolution of Kashmir issue – Prelude to peace, guarantee to stability”.
Senior Hurriyet leader, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, presided over the seminar and the speakers included resistance leaders, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Masroor Abbas, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Mir Ghulam Hassan, Ghulam Nabi Najar and student leaders, Inaam-ul-Haq and Tawseef Ahmed. The seminar was moderated by Abdul Manan Bukhari.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in his address deplored that India was following rigid policies in Kashmir and said that there could be no dialogue with the people who followed fascist ideology. He said that the joint resistance leadership had irritated New Delhi like anything and efforts were on to break the unity. “It is time to hail and appreciate the contribution of every single person who is affiliated with the (freedom) movement. There can be no dialogue with the fascists like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party as they know only one language which is to kill and muzzle the genuine dissent,” he said. He appealed to the people to make the shutdown call and public gathering at Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar on May 21 a success.
Professor Abdul Ghani Butt in his address termed the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as illegal and condemned the authorities for preventing him from attending the seminar. He said that the Hurriyet forum would support every effort aimed at strengthening the ongoing freedom movement and to devise means and ways to take it to its logical conclusion in a more effective manner. He paid glowing tributes to Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, martyrs of Hawal and other Kashmiri martyrs and said that they had laid down their lives for a sacred cause. He said that India had failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom movement in the past and would never succeed in its nefarious designs in future as well.
Raja Merajuddin Kalwal said that the Kashmiri people were continuing their struggle to secure their inalienable right to self-determination acknowledged by the world community and they would achieve this right at all costs.—KMS
