Bilawal cancels activities; Khursheed shows concern over attacks on PPP workers in Punjab


Case of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Babar Sohail Butt’s murder has been lodged against three people including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sohail Shaukat Butt.
It should be mentioned here that Babar Sohail Butt was critically injured by gunmen who barged into his house late last night while he was taking dinner. The injured Babar was rushed to Services Hospital however, he suc-cumbed to his gunshots wounds.
The deceased’s security guard Atif Butt was among the attackers in collusion with Irfan Jutt. According to police sources, Babar Sohail Butt was killed by his own guard’s firing in a late night incident in Ma-nawan area.
The FIR was lodged with the deceased’s brother as plaintiff and PML-N MNA Sohail Shaukat Butt named as ac-cused with terrorism clauses incorporated in the case. It should be mentioned here that Babar Sohail Butt was expected to be named as General Secretary in PPP Lahore division meeting
Police did not include SHO Manawa in the FIR against the request made by the applicant. The deceased’s brother Qaiser Sohail Butt submitted an application in Police Station Manawa for registration of FIR of his brother’s mur-der.
Manawan police registered the FIR against PML-N MNA Sohail Shaukat Butt, Atif Butt, Ifran Jutt, Sabi Jutt, Shafqat Ali alias Baga and two unknown men. Police did not name SHO Manawan Nasrullah Chatta despite the application also carry his name.
Former Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) ticket holder Babar Sohail Butt was gunned down in the early Monday morning near Lakhodair area of Manawan in Lahore. Police suspect Babar’s gunman could be in-volved in his assassination.
His gunman, identified as Atif, allowed the assailants to break into Babar’s residence by opening the door, police said. Police further added that the incident appeared to be a consequence of ‘old rivalry’.
Babar had contested provincial assembly elections on PPP-P’s ticket in 2013. According to police, three assas-sination attempts were made on Babar prior to the incident, as well.
Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Monday cancelled all organizational activities at Bilawal House Lahore owing to the assassination of a party leader in the city.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of former president and PPP-P co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, in her tweet, expressed hope that an investigation is conducted into the murder and miscreants involved prosecuted.
According to a statement by PPP Punjab Information Secretary Mustafa Khokhar, all meetings scheduled for Monday at Bilawal House regarding district organizational issues have been postponed owing to the murder of party leader Babar Butt.
Khokhar said murder attempt at PPP leader Shaukat Basra and assassination of Babar Butt is a failure of the government.
Meantime, Chaudhry Manzoor alleged that Babar Butt was pressurized to quit the PPP.
Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Monday expressed grief over killing of Paki-stan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Babar Butt and urged the government for immediate arrest of culprits behind the incident.
While expressing concern over recent attacks on PPP leaders, the opposition leader said that no arrest has been made in an attack on another party leader Shoukat Basra so far.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of PP member Babar Sohail Butt’s murder and asked for report from CCPO Lahore and ordered the immediate arrest of involved culprits. CM has also directed to form investigative team constitute on senior officers. He has also ordered to investigate the case on merit and justice should be provided to the deceased family at any cost.—Agencies
