Senate condemns attack on Makkah

Body to receive complaints against land grabbers, housing societies

Islamabad—The Senate Tuesday adopted a resolution strongly condemning the launching of a ballistic missile towards Makkah Al-Mukarramah on October 27, which fortunately was intercepted by air defence forces of the Saudi Kingdom and destroyed.
The resolution was moved by the Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafar ul Haq which was passed by the House unanimously. The Senate called upon the OIC and Unite Nations Security Council to take serious notice of flouting of the inviolability of holy places which amounted to encroaching upon the religious sanctities of one billion Muslims throughout the world as stipulated in international conventions.
Representing the sentiments of the people of Pakistan and the Muslim world as a whole, it strongly condemned such actions which amounted to provoking the sentiments and feelings of the Muslims.
It urged the government to re-assure its full support to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards the protection of sanctity of the holy places, which tied together the Muslims throughout the world
Meanwhile Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control Tuesday announced that people could approach it for complaints against land grabbers and housing societies to get them addressed.
Chairing a committee meeting here, Senator Rehman Malik said there had been reports that housing societies were playing foul with the innocent citizens and selling forged files.
The housing societies were also allegedly selling plots to the citizens in excess of the total land they possessed due to which buyers were suffering a lot, he added. Minister of State for Interior Baligh-ur-Rehman, senators Shahi Syed, Col (Retd) Syed Tahir Hussain Mashadi, Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini and Syed Shibli Faraz, and senior officials of Ministry of Interior and Law Division attended the meeting.—APP
