Plan of action to counter climate change challenges


Islamabad—All the provincial governments are in the process of making “Provincial Action Plans” to counter challenges of climate change to finalize priority, short term, midterm and long term projects to ensure safe environment for all.
Governments of Punjab and Sindh are holding meetings with stakeholders to finalize their action plans for implementation of projects in different sectors as proposed in the Implementation Framework of the Policy.
The provinces have developed Provincial Climate Change Policy Implementation Committees and established climate change units in their Planning and Development Departments to address the issue of climate change, an official of ministry of climate change told APP.
The informed that in accordance with the National Climate Change Policy to address the issue of climate change in the country, provincial departments are preparing their draft documents which would be discussed with all the stake holders.
To implement the actions in the Policy, its Implementation Framework has been introduced, sources said adding, the short term, midterm and long term actions/projects have been identified to mitigate carbon emissions and for adaptation to climate change impacts in the country.
A National Climate Change Policy Implementation Committee (NCCPIC) has also been established comprising members from the federal ministries and provincial departments, Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders and Ministry of Climate Change for establishing a concrete implementation strategy on it, they further said.—APP
