Islamabad—Showing a good gesture towards writers and poets of the country, Pakistan Academy of Letters has doubled the amount of the Kamaal-e-Funn Award from Rs500,000 to Rs1 million and the National Literary Award from Rs100,000 to Rs200,000.
Similarly, the PAL after getting the government’s approval has also enhanced the amount of monthly stipend from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 for the deserving writers and poets. This amount is distributed by PAL.
By getting the government’s consent for considerable increase in the annual literary awards’ amount as well as the monthly stipends for the writers Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Chairman, PAL has emerged as one who really cares for the members of his tribe i.e. literary persons. When asked by Pakistan Observer, the PAL chief said the amount would be paid with effect from 2016.
Dr Bughio said that the government had accepted PAL’s long time demand to raise the amount of the awards and stipends.
He thanked the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance, and the Division of National History and Literary Heritage for enhance patronization of the literary community in the country and helping PAL in achieving its objective of the promotion of literature and the writers in the country. The writer’s community also appreciated government’s decision.
