Reference in memory of Uzbek president
Islamabad—President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan (died: September 2, 2016) always considered Pakistan as one of the first and foremost friends of Uzbekistan and whenever history of Pak-Uzbek relations is written, the name of President Islam Karimov will be among the most outstanding ones, this was said by Waheed-ul-Hassan, Special Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a condolence reference organized by Embassy of Uzbekistan and Pakistan-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Friendship Forum along with Pak-Uzbek Society.
A large numbers of Ambassadors, diplomats, businessmen and journalists had turned up to pay huge respect and honor the great late leader of Uzbekistan.
Waheed-ul-Hassan who was the chief guest on the occasion, said the transformation in terms of development and education of Uzbekistan during the period of late president was remarkable.
Waheed who has worked as Ambassador of Pakistan in Uzbekistan shared some very fond memories of his meeting with the late president.
He said that the dedication and love of Uzbek people for their president were remarkable and it goes to the credit of the late Uzbek leader that the country was put on the path of greater independence and prosperity.
Maintaining and strengthening independence of Uzbekistan has been the highest priority for President Islam Karimov and this has been a fundamental principle of his policy. The people of Uzbekistan inextricably relate the great achievements of the country with the name of the late Head of State.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan Furkat Sadikov while speaking on the occasion said presence of friends on the occasion for sharing grief with the people of Uzbekistan meant a lot to him.
Sadikov was of the view that President of Uzbekistan passed away but he left democratic, peaceful, prosperous and stable country with even stronger society behind him. He said that the late President Karimov had played a vital role in the implementation of development and foreign policy of the country and made many friends through peaceful means.
Akbar Ozghan, President Pak-Uzbek Society said that Late President served and led his nation throughout his entire life with devotion and dedication. It is because of the tireless and selfless efforts and dedication to the uplift and development of Uzbekistan that it stands where it is today.
Ms. Farhat Asif, President, Pakistan-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Friendship Forum, said that remarkable contribution of President Karmivo towards nation-building and peaceful development are the traits that will remain as memories that are imprinted on the lives of the Uzbek nation.
Karmiov was great proponent of regional peace, stability as he was among the initiator of SCO as a region forum and was a great supporter of Pakistan and Uzbek Friendship.
