Orange Line initiative

THOSE who visit the European countries such as Germany and Britain on their return always have words of admiration for the transport system available to the people there and envy of having the same in their cities. Living up to the expectations of the people, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken the lead in providing same modern, safe and affordable transport facilities to the people in main cities of the province including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan.
In another important initiative, the first of its kind in the country, provincial chief minister inaugurated the first set of bogies recently arrived from China to be used in Lahore’s Orange line project. The train, with five coaches, an energy-saving air-conditioning system and systems configured to handle unstable voltage, has been produced by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co Ltd China. Nearly 0.25 million commuters will travel using Orange Line train daily in the provincial metropolis. Though on various pretexts hurdles were created in the way of this important project, yet it is a matter of satisfaction that the provincial government looks firm and resolute to implement the project, which is only aimed at easing travelling of the people within the city. This project has no doubt harmed the environment and green look of the city, yet we expect that the Punjab CM will continue to work with the same vigour and energy to implement the project and also take practical steps to make Lahore a city of gardens. As Orange line train project has the capacity to ensure mass movement of people in minimum possible time, therefore, this must also be launched in other big cities of the province especially Rawalpindi. The metro project in Rawalpindi has greatly eased the travelling of people but as the city is expanding fast therefore there is need that a big project on the pattern of orange line is launched here to facilitate movement of the people travelling on this route on a daily basis. Similarly, we will also urge other provincial governments including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh to complete the mass transit systems at the earliest so that the people of their provinces could also benefit from this project.
