Naushahro Feroze—Healthy mothers nurture a healthy society and it was essential to bring tangible improvements in health sector to save mother and child from disease, said additional deputy commissioner Naushahro Feroze, Muhammad Usman Tahir.
He was addressing the inception workshop organized by HELP a social organization working on the health of mother and child here on Wednesday. Quoting the statistics issued by the United Nations’ fund for Children Fund (UNICEF) he said that mother and child belonging to rural areas were the most affected of malnutrition. He hoped that the program would impart awareness ofÂ balanced dietÂ among the mothers and children in the district.
The ADC stressed upon social sector organizations working in the district to pool their efforts through a single platform to avoid duplication of efforts and resources so that more benefits could be reached to the people.
He directed the NGOs to carry forward their programmes in coordination with concerned assistant commissioners and health officials.
While briefing the participants of workshops, program manager Help, Dr. Yasmeen, informed that a programs focused on mother and child health care was initiated with cooperation of UNICEF in different districts of the Sindh including Ghotki, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze.
She further said that medicines would be provided, in connection of health and nutrition, to expecting and lactating women and children who consist of 60 percent population of the district Naushahro Feroze.
Project Manager Waqar Shaikh and Program Coordinator Berzali briefed the workshop about features and future strategy of the programme and told that under the project 15 fix sites and 15 mobiles sites would be set up in the district to provide food supplement to malnourished children.
