Karachi—The Board of Studies of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) has decided to revise existing plan of studies of computer science department to balance the course of study in each semester. An official of the institution said here on Tuesday that a 3-member committee has been constituted for this purpose to put up its recommendations in next Board of Studies meeting for approval. This was decided during Computer Science Department’s Board of Studies (BOS) meeting which was chaired by Head of Computer Science department Dr. Shoukat Wasi. BOS meeting also decided to introduce education of Data Science as an elective subject from next semester in January, 2017 in order to meet industry and job market requirements. The meeting also decided to include holding of Seminars as a part of academic program to bridge the gap between industry and students. With the start of this academic program prominent persons from industry will be invited to address the students seminar to highlight their problems and issues faced by our IT industry presently. The purpose to conduct such seminars is to provide an opportunity to MAJU students to understand the actual problems of the industry and find the solutions by carrying out research works to help the industry. It was proposed during the meeting that students be allowed to take on line courses from various known universities and such courses be added there transcript in replacement of course available in university. Addressing to the meeting, Dr. Shoukat Wasi said that Data Science subject is being included in our computer science department academic program in line with the guideline and policies of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
