Karachi—The law and order in Karachi is improving fast in the metropolis owing to the operation Zarb-e-Azb. This was stated by Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, on Monday. He was talking to a high-level delegation of the US Embassy in Pakistan.
Deputy Chief of the Mission in Islamabad, Jonathan Pratt was leading the delegation. Consul General in Karachi, Brian Heath, Consul General in Lahore, Zachary Karkenrider, Consul General in Peshawar, William Martin, Chad Peterson, Political/Economic Chief were among the delegation.
Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad said that mow the efforts are aimed at maintenance of sustained peace in the city. He said that in this regard the military and civil leadership are pursuing short-term and long-term plans. The Governor was of the view that benefit should be taken of the improved law and order in the metropolis to carry forward the process of development at a faster pace to generate employment opportunities and tackle poverty.
He said that development in law and order in the country is linked to the progress and improved law and order situation in Karachi. Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad pointed out that this is for the first time that senior diplomats from various consulates have come to call on Governor Sindh in the form of a single delegation.
He also briefed them regarding the steps for the security and the law and order. The Governor said that steps against terrorists would continue till ridding the city from criminals, terrorists and target killers. He further stated that this is for the first time that the people, the government and the military leadership have the same resolve in this regard.
Dr. Ishrat said that there is not doubt that solution to the problem of the people lies in democracy. He stated that for the cause of democracy it is necessary that process of accountability should continue at every level and good governance fostered.
The Governor also lauded the armed forces for tackling the menace of terrorism. He further pointed out that USA is assisting Pakistan in various sectors. There are appropriate sectors for investment in Pakistan and Sindh especially in Karachi and the American investors should take advantage of that.
Jonathan Pratt informed the Governor that prominent American firms including those of General Electric, PG and others are interested in investment in Pakistan. He said that on the pattern of American Canter, a national archives library is being set up in Karachi which would be a gift for the city.
