KP Inter-Regional, Inter-Club Hockey Championship begins

Peshawar—Dera Red club of Dera Ismail Khan and Nawa Khali Club of Swat played a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-Regional Inter-Club Hockey Championship, which got under way here at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Vice President Pakistan Hockey Federation Muhammad Saeed Khan was the chief guest on this occasion. Secretary KP Hockey Association Syed Zahid Shah, office-bearers of the Peshawar District Hockey Association, member PHF governing board Malik Wadan (Swat) and players were also present.
Before the start of the match the players were introduced to the chief guest.
In the opening match both Nawa Khali club Swat and Dera Red of Dera Ismail Khan played a 2-2 draw in the stipulated 70-minute time. After successful holding of Inter-Club at District and Regional level, the Inter-Regional Inter-Club Hockey Championship is being organized with two top clubs from each region are taking part.
From Dera Ismail Khan Region Dera Red and Al-Siqque Clubs, Bacha Khan club and Khadim Club from Bannu, Bejligar Red and HOti Club from Mardan, Al-Babar Club Timargara, Dir Lower, Nawa Kali Mingora, Fazal Club and Shaheen Turbela, Civil Quarters Club, Prince Civil Quarters Club from Peshawar, Khazai Club and Ayub Club from Kohat are taking part in the Championship.
The teams have been divided in four groups and among them two top teams would represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National Club Championship to be organized under the aegis of Pakistan Hockey Federation. President KP Hockey Association Captain (Retd) Tariq Hayat nominated Syed Zahir Shah as organizing secretary. The teams have been divided in four groups A, B, C and D. In group-A comprising Dera Red, Nawa Khali, Civil Quarter, Shaheed Tarbela, in pool-B Saddiuia Club, Bejli Gar Mardan, Bacha Khan Bannu, pool-C Hoti Club Mardan, Fazal Club Abbottabad, Kaghzai (Kohat), in pool-B Prince Civil Quarters Peshawar, Khadam Club Bannu, Ayub Club Kohat and Al-Badar Club Swat. Earlier, before the start of the opening match Dera Red Club took the lead in the 3rd minute when Murtaza slammed in a beautiful goal but Swat tied the tally through skipper Israr Rahim on the field attempt. When both were tied 1-1 they raided on each other defence.—APP
