Peshawar—The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has so far planted 147 million saplings under ‘Billion Tree Forestation (BTF) project’ in the province.
This information was revealed in a written answer to a question of the Mufti Said Janan here during the question-hour of the provincial assembly Tuesday. The trees planted in the province under the project are included Pine, Cedar, Bacoin, Cyrus, Sheesham, Acacia Franciana, Mulberry, Eucalyptus, Poplar, Beer, Maple and other local species.
During first year of the project plants for spring plantation campaign of 2014-15 was provided from public sector nurseries grown under the concerned Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) and remaining were purchased from private nurseries.
Similarly, in response to the supplementary question of Maulana Fazal Ghafoor of JUI-F, the Provincial Minister for Mineral Development, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli said that the funds collected in head of royalty in marble producing areas is deposited in the provincial exchequer and then it is utilized for annual development programme.
She said they are making efforts to make marble sector more viable and if needed they are also ready to make legislation in this regard.—APP
