Karbala gives lesson that freedom is fundamental right: Nawaz Sharif

Islamabad—Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that the issues pervading the country could be addressed successfully if the nation forged unity and harmony. , following the teaching of Imam Hussain (RA).
In his message to the nation on Yaum-e-Ashura 1438 Hijri, the prime minister said Pakistan was achieved to meet the high goals for what Imam Hussain (RA) sacrificed life.
‘On this day, we will have to shun our sectarian, ethnic and provincial differences and have to inculcate equality, harmony, discipline and the traits of sacrifice in ourselves. The tragedy of Karbala teaches us the very lesson,’ the prime minister remarked.
He said for supremacy of the truth, Imam Hussain (RA) preferred sacrificing his life to succumbing to the oppression. He (Imam Hussain RA) gave the world a lesson that freedom was a fundamental right and was in accordance with the true spirit of Islam, the prime minister added.
He viewed that safeguarding the truth was superior to protection of one’s own life and the martyrdom of Holy Prophet (PBUH)’s grandson gave us the very message. He said such a sacrifice and steadfastness shown by Imam Hussain (R.A) was unprecedented in the world history and Imam Hussain’s message was a guiding principle for the whole humanity. Keeping in view the prevailing circumstances, the said it was need of the hour the nation forged unity in its ranks so that no enemy could cast an evil eye on their country.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has appealed to countrymen to maintain an atmosphere of tolerance, patience, brotherhood and respect amongst their ranks at all level.
In a message on eve of Ashura Moharram issued here on Monday, the Government said ‘Today is Aushura e Muharram-ul-Haram. This sagacious and sacred occasion of the Islamic history is observed in memory of the supreme sacrifice offered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions while standing up for righteousness and truthfulness.
From the annals of history, one finds comprehensive message with far reaching effects for Muslims, when faced with forces of tyranny and cruelties as far as their spirit and enthusiasm are concerned.’
The Governor said, ‘The way, the martyrs of Karbala demonstrated the spirit of courage; steadfastness; tolerance and patience and above all devotion to the cause, offers a comprehensive message to every faithful.
It depicts a rare precedence of steadfastness against the forces of cruelties on the one hand while on the other conveys a message of commitment to remain adamant in line with their faith of maintaining supremacy of righteousness.’
‘On this auspicious occasion, I would like to appeal the countrymen in general and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA in particular to maintain an atmosphere of tolerance, patience, brotherhood and respect amongst their ranks at all levels.
The sanctity of the day also reminds us to maintain unity, spirit of fraternity and brotherhood. Keeping in view the difficult circumstances, we have gone through over the recent past, there is dire need to be alive to the circumstances around; contribute to develop an environment of trust and faithfulness; spirit of brotherhood, tolerance and patience,’ the Governor said. He said be passionate when faced with untoward situations and be steadfast, when things take, the unavoidable turn and this may also be a best way to pay tributes to the martyrs of Aushora-e-Muharram.
Meanwhile, President of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians and former President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the underlying message of Yom-e-Ashur is: ‘Resist tyranny, oppression and falsehood at all costs, at all times and under all circumstances’. Today therefore while we pay homage to Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala we also pledge to resist tyranny, oppression, injustice and falsehood at all times, he said in a message on Yom-e-Ashur. Today Hazrat Imam Hussain shines gloriously beaconing us to emulate his great example in fighting injustice and oppression, he said.
Today the Satanic forces of tyranny and falsehood have reared their heads in the form of militants and so called jehadi outfits who have wrought havoc on this country behind the façade of ideology. The commemoration of Yom-e-Ashur today demands that we summon our collective strengths and energies to exterminate these evil forces from our midst, he said. The former President also asked the people to rise above sectarianism and forge unity among their ranks. The need for harmony and tolerance has never been as great as it is today, he said.—Agencies
