Iqra, NUST, PU, Sargodha Varsity advance in All-Pakistan Inter-University Women Squash

Peshawar—Iqra University, NUST, Punjab and Sargodha secured victories on the opening day of the All-Pakistan Inter-University Women Squash Championship, which got under way here at PSB Coaching Center Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Complex on Monday.
Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Razia Sultana was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the Championship in a colourful opening ceremony. Director General Directorate of Sports KP Miss Rashida Ghaznavi, Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, Organizing Secretary and Director Sports SBBWU Miss Maria Samin, Chief Referee Pakistan Squash Federation Munawar Zaman, Officials, players and large number of female spectators were also present and witnessed the thrilling matches.
In first match Iqra University defeated Lahore College for Women University by 2-1. In the first singles Sadia defeated Ghazala Siddique by 2-0, the score was 11-7, and 11-5. In the second singles Zahab of Lahore College for Women University beat Maria Cheema of Iqra University by 2-0, the score was 11-5, 11-8 and in the last singles Neha beat Fazeela by 2-0, the score was 11-4 and 11-7.
In the second match NUST beat Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University by 2-0, in the first singles Hiba Zakir beat Afsheen by 2-0, the score was 11-5 and 11-5 and spirited Faiza Zafar beat Kanwal by 2-0, the score was 11-1 and 11-2.
In the group B matches Punjab beat Imperial College of Business Studies by 2-0.
Qurat Ul Ain beat Kainat Liaqat by 2-0, the score was 11-9 and 11-7 and Zainab Shafique beat Uniza Nasir by 2-0, the score was 11-5, and 11-8 and Sargodha University beat Fatima Jinnah Women University by 2-0. Ansa beat Abeara Zainab by 2-0, the score was 11-6 and 11-7, Hira beat Sher Bano by 2-0, the score was 11-8 and 11-7.
In the last group league match Punjab University defeated Fatima Jinnah Women University by 2-0. In the first singles match Rabia beat Syeda Abeen by 2-0, the score was 11-6 and 11-4, Kainat beat Sher Bano by 2-0, the score was 11-8 and 11-9.
At total of eight teams comprising Iqra University Karachi, Lahore College for Women University, NUST Islamabad, and Imperial College for Business Studies, Punjab University, University of Sargodha, Fatima Jinnah University and host Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University are taking part in the Championship being played on singles league basis for Team event title.
The final will be played on November 30 at 1.30 p.m.
Speaking on this occasion, VC Professor Dr. Razia Sultana lauded the efforts being put in by HEC for the promotion of all sports activities in the Universities across Pakistan. “We are very keen to have more sports activities for our students,” she added.
She said holding of the Championship is aimed at to portray a soft image of Peshawar in particular and KP in general.
At the end, she gave away gift hampers to the team managers and coaches.—APP
